Finding of the Holy Cross–May 3rd
The cross on which Jesus died was found by St. Helen, mother of emperor Constantine the Great, about the year 326. The cross had been buried in a deep pit along with the two crosses of the men who were crucified with Him. St. Helen, searching for them, found all three: by the application of the cross of Christ to a sick woman, she was instantly cured, its identity was established.
Prayer–O God, Who in the miraculous discovery of the Holy Cross was pleased to renew the wonders of Thy Passion, grant, that by the ransom paid on that saving wood, we may find help for the attainment of life eternal. O Lord Jesus Christ, we adore and bless Thee; For through Thy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.
